unit 5

Exercising with Loving kindness was alright at first but somehow, it gets difficult at times. For instance, yesterday a co-worker had left her cart with items in my aisle alone. Trying to be kind and nice, I started stocking her items and 15 minutes later, she yelled "hey!, that's my cart!" I told her that she left it in my aisle and I started stocking the items. She yelled, "I was coming back!". She then snatched the cart away from me and huffed and puffed walking away. I immediately felt unappreciated and I said  to myself that I had a lot to say but I was going to allow her to have her moment because I did not know what she was going through in her life to be so upset. Clearly, me helping her to do her job was not giving her a bad feeling. I immediately thought of the loving kindness exercise and I have released the emotions of that incident. That is my frustration with the on going practice of loving kindness because I can tell you all about all of the evil thoughts that I had that I could have said but I did not.

Listening to the third track on the CD was confusing. When Dacher spoke, it was easy to listen but when that scratching sound started, I tried, tried and tried to listen and it seemed as if the 22 minutes would not end. It was painfully irritating and it was before the incident at my job yesterday so I had no hidden emotions. My mind was clear but that sound was disturbing for some reason. I know that I lasted for 6 or 7 minutes and then I fast forwarded it. I thought that there was something wrong with the CD so I took it out and checked to see if it was scratched. It was not harmed in any way, I then putit back in and started it again and the same thing happened. I can remember the first time putting the CD in a few weeks ago and I feel asleep. My sister and cousin told me that it was loud and questioned whether it was supposed to sound like that . They were clearly disturbed by it but had no choice because they live with me. I pay my bills by myself without help and it was my homework. Listening to it the other night, I displayed a little friction with listening to it and my sister brought it up that her and my cousin was thinking the same thing but they could not say anything. I wonder if I am the only one that feels the same with listening to that scratching sound? Anyone?????

Unit 4

Loving Kindness practice- Practicing this all week was normal for me. I have always been the type of person that shows kindness to all and care for others before myself. In the past, I look to it as a good deed for me. It makes me feel good about myself.
Listening to track #2 of the Integral Health CD was mesmerizing. The ocean sounds were peaceful and it reminds me of when I go to the Base at the park. It is bordered on the Anacostia River and across from it is Reagan National Airport. I go to sit and watch the planes take off and land. Hearing the waves of the waters bring me peace of mind.
These 18 minutes were not hard at all. Practicing it three times a week was a breeze and I have always tried to get my friends to go with me on the base to the park. It can be quite romantic!

The concept to Mental Workout is to practice as much as you can and in doing so, what you are practicing will become second nature and that is the mental workout.

I am sorry for the late submission every one!

Unit 3

1.            Based on your reflections, and on a scale of 1 to 10 (ten being optimal wellbeing), where do you rate your A-physical wellbeing, B-spiritual well-being, C-psychological well-being? Why?
A- I rate my physical wellbeing-6. In January I had Upper Respiratory Infection for 3 weeks and I recently had strep throat for two weeks. I have arthritis in my left knee and just in the last week, I have been experiencing arthritis in my left hand and it is a horrible feeling. I rate my spiritual well being as a 9. I feel strong about God and his son Jesus. I do not go to church right now but I praise him in my own way and it works for me.I rate my psychological well-being as an 8. Since finishing my Associate's with Kaplan and trying to ransition into Business, I have been unsuccessful and my morale and self esteem about having a degree is low. I am being optimistic with almost being finished with the Bachelor's but I am hesitant to think about whether I will qualifyfor a better job or not. I have faith, but it is tarnished a little.
2.            Develop a goal for yourself in each area (physical, spiritual, psychological).
My physical goal is to add exercise into my schedule at least 2 to 3 times a week and not overeat. i also plan to eat healthier than I have been used to since being sick. I believe that my recent bouts with UPI and Strep was a sign that I was not eating healthy and it definitely reachedd my mind of awareness. I understand and I will do what I need to in order to succeed in losing weight and being healthy.
My spiritual goal is to get in touch with my inner self, meditate and try to cleanse my mind and body.
My psychological goal is to learn all that I can and more and improve my self esteem by having faith.
3.            What activities or exercise can you implement in your life to assist in moving toward each goal?
Relaxation and meditation will clear my mind and body of  toxins, a vitamin plan will help to give me more energy and eating right (vegetables daily) will help my body get used to being healthy.
4.            Complete the relaxation exercise The Crime of the Century. To hear this exercise, click here. Describe your experience. (What it beneficial? Frustrating? etc.)
I have tried accessing this site from 4 different computers and was not successful.

Reflection

Meditation was enormously enjoying. I layed back on my bed and stared at the ceiling and closed my eyes for two hours. My body was relaxed and I felt no muscle strain in my neck, no arthritis in my left knee or left hand and it was refreshing. I am going to make it a point to take two hours out my week to relax with no music or television or family members in my head. I am encouraging everyone that I know to try it. I even added an hour of listening to the The Path to Human Flourishing "Contemplative Practices" Audio Companion and I found that mesmerizing. I did fall asleep however, I still enjoyed it.

Welcome

Hello Professor, Classmates, Family and Friends!

I recently turned 39 years on March 6, 2011, I have two children, 17 year old daughter and a 12 yr old son. I live in Washington, DC (born in DC and raised with South Carolina roots). You can tell from my age that I started learning a little late but the I have always been told that it is never too late to do what you want. I felt that something was missing and that my life was slowly passing me by. After sitting on the computer for hours and hours for 2 years, staying up late and falling asleep at the computer, I came to the conclusion that I could be learning and getting an education at the same time. So, I set a goal for myself on making sure that I get my Bachelor's degree in Business by the age of 40. At the age of 35 on September 11, 2007, I called Kaplan and enrolled into the Associate's for Business/ Accounting. I received my Associate's in November of 2009 and I am currently two terms away (this one included) from completing my Bachelor's program that is due to end in October 2011. I will be 40 in March 2012 and will have completed my goal with a huge chunk of accomplishment. It is the first thing that I have decided to do for myself instead of continuing to do for others before me and it feels good. The first year my family members were not understandng because they were used to me being at their beck and call and I fought to explain to them that School for me was important and with much strain, they adjusted and survived the last 3 1/2 years. It has been the best decision that I ever made and if I had to do it all over again, I would not change anything! Welcome to my Blog!
